The Future of the Sprawl

Hi guys,

lets face it, the good times are gone. Our gameservers are mostly empty, TS is not really used and we fall short on members.

We have several options:

a) we let the sprawl die
b) we try to get back on track

So what will it be?

The gameservers cost me atm 40€ every month so I would like to see that money well spent.

So do me a favour and start trying to get our people back onto this site (I will write something up on how to register for the Groups etc) and try to get some more people involved.

Keep in mind we not only play Dystopia, a lot of us play other games too... try to get them into Dystopia or TF2 too.. perhaps we can build a group of people who is fun to play with again.

We could probably also Clan in TF2 but this will require a lot more people so I guess in this area we will stay at the organised fun level.

I'm trying to setup a mumble server (a little bit more complicated as I have to compile from source) to run next / replace the TS server.

Other things to come:

I will close down the gameservers when I see that there is no real need anymore, atm I have targeted the 1st of November, this doesn't mean that you now all need to play only on the TSG servers, but it would be cool if they would become more populated again and it would be cool if some people would chip in into the costs.

I don't want to give the wrong impression... I'm fully behind TSG / TSC being there in the future, but I will also be not the only guy anymore backing everything.

So let me know, get our members back in and bring back the fun we had when we started TSG / TSC.

hmmm i really think that the ppl that want a clan and stuff that plays dystopia at least have already found one... i can try to post about dystopia in the Norwegian gaming community`s and see if some new blood is ready for dystopia... but i cant do anything about tf2... cuz i dont have that game :P

For the TF2 server it would help if you kept the server updated, when i tried to connect it told me the class tables didn't match. Keep the server up to date is one thing to do.

The Dystopia server is the most active server, in the last few weeks it hasn't been as active as it used to be but when 1.2 is out I'm sure it will be back to normal. The Dystopia server you don't need to worry about.

The reason for the lack of activity is because most people use thesprawl as a resource for the files that it hosts not to be part of the community, the main dystopia community is based around the official site and forums. Also the fact the previous site had some problems for a while may have put people off.

Advertise the addresses for the different servers thesprawl has in the servers, just having text saying "don't forget about is in tf2" isn't really much.

will take a look.. I have to write a script to restart the tf2 server everyday.. tf2 server updates are normally once a week.. a lot more work needs to go into it than in dystopia.

if anything do work now (hrhr goodjoke) i might have web back latest in 2-3 months and i hoped to get back into the sprawl action

Mm hmm... Im sorry for not being very active member recently, but it's summertime and people has lots of other things to do then. But but, maybe you should add some sort of donation option here to help you to pay for the server? I would help you from time to time, and I bet there are others willing to share the burden of yours too. Like this, The Sprawls could stay around more longer. :)

Personally I would like to see The Sprawl well and alive for as long as there are players in Dystopia.

hmm there is a chip in button on the right side of the website.. but we should perhaps thinking about getting a dedicated gameserver instead of spending 50 € for a dedicated server. what do you guys think?

What's the difference between those two server types? Oh, and I tried to join TSC group, would you accept me in, Don? (I already checked that video you have made, I just havent received any mail)

Ok, found it now... But it is in german, which I dont talk or read. I wouldnt like to play around with my money if I dont know what's going on. Could you atleast make an english version of that Chip In? Would help alot.

Sure is it's cheaper and better. If it has more advantages getting a dedicated game server then go for it!
